- Resolution — higher is better. An image at 300 DPI gives significantly better results than one at 72 DPI. If you're scanning a document, scan at 300 DPI or higher. If you're taking a photo of printed text, get as close as practical to fill the frame.
- Contrast — dark text on a white background is ideal. The engine struggles with low-contrast combinations like grey text on a slightly lighter grey background. If your image has poor contrast, try running it through the Convertix Image Enhancer first to boost contrast before extracting the text.
- Orientation — text should be horizontal. Rotated or skewed text reduces accuracy significantly. Straighten your image in a basic photo editor before uploading if the text isn't level.
- Font type — clear sans-serif and serif fonts (Arial, Times New Roman, etc.) are recognised extremely accurately. Decorative, cursive, or stylised fonts are much harder. Handwritten text is the most challenging of all.
- Language selection — always match the language setting to the text in your image. If your image contains mixed languages, try whichever language makes up the majority of the text.
